The Grand Finale

A lot has happened since we last spoke. Friday night we finished the Broadway in Abilene series with the musical Chicago. This was the third time I have seen Chicago on stage, and it was definitely on par with the London and New York performances. I think it may have gotten more applause than any other show we have seen here in Abilene. Saturday we drove to Grapevine for a Hitt family reunion. I believe there were 38 of us, which is probably the largest single gathering this family has ever had. Sunday after lunch, Tiffany and I headed to Frisco for Edgefest 17. The lineup this year was better than the last two years, and despite being a little cool outside we had a good time. Anytime you can see several bands in one place for about 40 bucks has to be a good deal. We are both getting really excited about Bonnaroo this summer. Monday afternoon, we did the final walkthrough of our house. This morning we met at the title company to sign the paperwork. We are now homeowners. At least we will be in 30 years.

Don't Fence Me In

We made it home from New Mexico in one piece. Both of us are exhausted. Here are a few pictures that I took last week before we left. The carpet is in and it looks great. I walked around on it barefoot for about 30 minutes. That's really the only test you need for carpet in my opinion. The last picture is of the fence around the backyard. We are not fencing in the whole lot, but we still have a pretty good sized yard. I don't need a psychic to know that there is a riding lawnmower in my future.

too tired to think

Here are a few more pictures of the kitchen. These have the sink and the backsplash tile in them. We are quite pleased with the way it all looks. If you would like decorating advice for your house, I will be happy to offer my services at a reasonable rate. The builder told us that someone asked the painters if the house was for sale. It is nice to know that someone else thinks our house is as great as we do. The last two pictures are the forms where they are going to pour the driveway. For all I know they have already poured the rest of it, but I just didn't have time to go out there today. Tomorrow isn't looking too good either. We are halfway through another crazy week, and I haven't accomplished near enough. I thought surely by 2008 we would have figured out a way to clone ourselves. If there were two of me, I could probably finish at least half of what I need to.

countertops

This is going to be a short post. I am on my way to work, but I am doing my best to catch up on this blog. These are the best pictures I have of the countertops. I'm not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but they look great. Gene called me yesterday about the carpet, so I guess that will be coming soon. For those who read this for my amazing sense of humor, I apologize. Maybe I will write something funny next time.

same song, second verse

Here are pictures of two more verses that are painted on the slab. I'm sure in a couple of weeks they will have carpet on top of them.

John 6:51

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Another week has gone by, and I managed to get behind on the blog. Lately it seems like I can't get caught up on anything. I had been meaning to get these pictures up before the countertops were in. Tiffany spent some time painting some scripture around the house one evening. This particular one is on the bar area in the kitchen. Of course you can't see it now, but we know it's there.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Friday night while we were visiting our house, some of our new neighbors dropped by. They live a few houses down from us at the end of the street. I think they have only been there a month or two. We gave them the grand tour of the house and got to talking a little bit. They are definitely our kind of people. I hope that everyone in the neighborhood is as friendly as they are.

The kitchen countertops are in, but you will have to wait a couple of days for those pictures. I am still a few days behind. Instead you will have to settle for pictures of the marble. The first pair of sinks are from the guest bathroom. The bottom three pictures are from our bathroom. Yes, we got the girly sinks. Tiffany is really excited about the giant tub. We only have a shower in our current bathroom. Personally I don't understand bathtubs. It is beyond me why anyone would want to sit around in dirty water. How can that possibly be sanitary?

tile

So this is the third day of the month and the third blog of the month. It looks like things are going to move pretty fast from here on out. Here are some pictures of the tile we chose. They finished it yesterday, and it looks great. The marble is all done in the bathrooms. Perhaps tomorrow I will get those pictures up. We went this morning and picked out tile for the backsplash in the kitchen. They will start that on Monday. We also picked out our kitchen appliances this morning. The granite countertops are supposed to be put in tomorrow. We are both really excited to see how that will look. After talking to Gene this morning, we were thrilled to learn that we are still somehow working within our budget. I think it's the best news I've heard all year.

Fans & Lights

We picked out a few light fixtures and fans while we were in Fort Worth last week. We told Gene to pick out the rest of them. There are only so many decisions I can make in a lifetime, and this house has put me pretty close to my limit. To our surprise and delight, the fixtures that he picked out went quite well with the ones we picked. Tomorrow we are going to pick the appliances and backsplash tile for the kitchen.

Coming tomorrow: Tile!

and it was called yellow

I can't even look at this room without thinking of that Coldplay song. If you don't know it, count yourself among the lucky ones. It would probably just be in your head for days anyway. This particular room is going to be Tiffany's sewing room. She wanted yellow; she got yellow. I'm not gonna lie. This room scares me. I just realized I used a semicolon up there. I believe that the semicolon is quite underused. I'm not totally sure I even used it correctly. I'll wait to hear from my aunt Nancy, the English teacher. I believe today is her birthday. Hopefully she has something better to do than read this blog.

In other news that I find interesting, the Dr Pepper Company has offered a free Dr Pepper to everyone in the United States if Guns N' Roses releases Chinese Democracy this year. As a fan of both of these things, I find it completely interesting and totally random. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you can just ignore this. If for some reason you find what I have just said intriguing, you can read more here. There is also a blog that the Dr Pepper people have posted so you can keep up with the progress. I have put a link up on the right side of the page. If that isn't enough, feel free to use your favorite search engine to find out anything you want to know.

I'm sorry I got a little off topic there. I have been told that I need to continue the blog even after the house is finished. That being the case, I will need to continue to find interesting things to blog about. I promise more house stuff in the next day or two.
