another week...

I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but there was quite a bit done this week. The weather was nice today, so I spent a good amount of time out there looking around. I think the weather is supposed to turn nasty in a couple of days. Hopefully it won't hinder progress too much. Earlier this week the carpenters were out there working in full winter gear.

Five Weeks

I promised to try and update this page every week. It has been six days, so it looks like I'm OK this week. I can already see that I am going to have to make time to do this. After five weeks of work, this place is actually starting to look like a house! We have been out there nearly every day this week. Clearly we are going to be "those people." I really figured we would probably go once or twice a week, but it is fun to see what is being done on a daily basis. Now we are really starting to get a perspective on how this place is going to look.

I am completely exhausted today. We went to Fort Worth last night to see Bowling for Soup. They played until nearly 2 am, which put us back home around 4:30. At least I didn't have to work today. Here are a few pictures. The first one is the front of the house. The second one is the back. The third one is the kitchen, taken from the dining room.

Edit: For some reason these pictures are not shown full size when you click on them. I will work on that and get back to you.

The Frame

This past weekend, we drove out to the house to inspect the progress. We were thrilled to see that they have already started on the framework. They didn't have all of the walls up, but most of the rooms were marked off. It made it a little easier to walk around and imagine what this place is going to look like. Now we are super excited. The area where I am standing in the last picture is part of the front porch, directly in front of the door. I took some pictures of Tiffany too, but she asked for approval on all of hers before they go on this page. If she thinks they look OK, then I'll post them later.

I have had a couple of people ask who our builder is. His name is Gene Lantrip. Maybe I'm biased, but I think he has built some of the best looking houses in Abilene. If you are interested, here is a link to his website.

The slab

They poured the slab on Saturday. I guess this is all really happening now. I can't wait for the framework to start going up. Then it will really look like a house. Pretty soon we will probably be making all kinds of decisions about colors and stuff like that. Personally, I was fine with gray on the slab. They will have to ask Tiffany about things that matter.

In response to a couple of e-mails:

1. You can click on these pictures to see them full size.

2. The lot is a little over an acre--1.03 acres to be exact. The house will be 2194 square feet.

Breaking New Ground

We made it through the holidays without any major issues. The biggest piece of news in our life is that we are building a new house. Every day people ask me how it is going. I'm not making any promises, but I will try to keep this updated at least on a weekly basis. We'll call the official start date for the house 12/17/2007. I'm pretty sure that's the first day that they did any actual work out there. These pictures are from the first two weeks. They are going to pour the slab tomorrow, so I will get some more pictures up in a few days. I guess if anyone has specific questions, you can e-mail them to me and I will address them in future blogs.
